Community Arts & Music Festival

The Hot Times Community Music & Arts Festival is an independent, yearly, all volunteer, community arts & music festival. The site is a large, grassy area with mature hardwood trees throughout. The three-day event showcases local and nationally known professional musicians, dancers, poets, visual and performance artists, hosts the largest gathering of Art cars in Central Ohio & a lively street fair.

HOT TIMES is more...

"The Poetry Slam", creates an environment which stimulates interaction between poets/poetry ensembles and listeners

"Listen For The Jazz, features oral, musical and written jazz history segments and a concert/jam session featuring older "historic" musicians

"Hear History In The Music", is designed to expose the public to historically important performers and musical styles through performance facets, performers have included: The Original Drifters, The Impressions, H. Bomb Ferguson, Josh White Jr., Jimmy McGriff, The Holmes Brothers, The Marveletts, CJ Chiener, Robert Lockwood Jr., Big Joe Duskin, David "Fat Head" Newman, Willie Pooch.

The Columbus Children's Parade begins at Kwanzaa Playground in English Park and marches West along Bryden Road to the HOT TIMES site where a full morning of youth oriented programming, designed to delight children of all ages. The Children's Parade is organized by Central Community House. Check out the Kids Activities page.

"On Site", is an experimental, environmental, sculpture event initiated in 1987 - open to all Ohio artists.

Awards include -The Honored Neighborhood Artist, past recipients include: Smoky Brown, Walt Neil, Anna Bishop, Kojo Kamau, Tony and Aziza West, Baba Olugbala, Gene Walker, Leon Page, Is Said. Denny Griffith, George Miller, Queeen Brooks, and Jim Arter; The Stewart-Brown Best Of Street Fair and The Bill Banks Memorial Volunteer Of The Year.

Activities for every age include: creative, non-competitive children's art; horse carriage rides; a lively street fair; & The Community Talks.

Hot Times has been strongly supported by the community, area and regional businesses, The City Of Columbus, The Columbus Department Of Health, The Ohio Arts Council, The National Endowment For The Arts, The Columbus Musicians Local, The Columbus Jazz Society, The United Way, The Columbus Blues Alliance, The Franklin County Prevention Institute, The Main Street Business Association, The Columbus Foundation, The Greater Columbus Arts Council, & The Community Festival (Comfest).
